Carpe Diem IIThe Boat: 40' White CatamaranYour Captain and Hostess: Paul Howard and Fiona McCall Capacity: Maximum 15 guests Location: HARBOUR SQUARE PARK – At the water's edge south of Queen's Quay at York Street. From Queen's Quay, walk towards the harbour down the water's edge at the EAST side of the York Street Slip between the Second Cup coffee shop and the tall condo tower labelled with red letters as ‘One York Quay’ to the Harbour Square Park behind the apartment towers. (The park cannot be seen from the street.) There is a stone and steel globe-like sculpture at the water's edge called: 'Sundial Folly'. We will be moored on the wall near the sculpture, on the east side. Carpe Diem approaches the mooring across the harbour from the east. Your Captain, Paul Howard has skippered his own boats more than 100,000 ocean miles, including a circumnavigation of the world. Paul is also a former Canadian Yachting Association certified sailing and navigation instructor. Paul and Fiona are well known international sailors. They are authors of two books about their sailing experiences and have written many newspaper and magazine articles on their travels. They are best known locally for their 1980’s series in the Toronto Star ‘Family Sailing Adventure on the High Seas’ that chronicled their five year circumnavigation with their two young children, Penny and Peter. In their ‘Horn to Horn’ series that appeared in the Toronto Star from 2001 to 2005, they told of their sailing on Carpe Diem from Toronto out the St. Lawrence Seaway to Labrador, then on to Iceland and visiting Fiona’s family in Scotland. They continued south to mainland Europe and West Africa to South America. After a year in Brazil they sailed further south to Uruguay, Argentina and Chile. After rounding Cape Horn and spending nearly a year in the Beagle Channel area they stopped at the Falkland Islands on their way back to Toronto. Fiona and Paul are pleased to share their experience and adventures with interested sailors and travelers. They also are available as speakers with their dynamic slide show, ‘Horn to Horn’. 2009 was a banner year for three marriage proposals taking place on Carpe Diem – each one a ‘yes’.
